Chairman Bryan Welsh put together a great combination of speakers with the theme "Catch the Creative Wave". We got inspiration from Bonnie Hamilton, learned about relationships from Kevin Meyers, and Marketing from Michael Thompson. Jeff Laplante took us for a shoot at the beach, Dwon Guvenir spoke on printing the perfect photograph, and our own Adrian Klein took us behind the scenes with how he does landscape photography.

Portland, Oregon
Chairman John Alexander put together an excellent convention that concentrated on the business of photography featuring Michael Scalf, Bill Sorenson, and our own Bryan Welsh and Sheryl Landis. But the skills of photography were not left out as photographic legend Jay Maisel opened Friday night with a free program open to the public and sponsored by the PPO, and the convention finished with an amazing program by Vicki Taufer.

Classic photographer Richard Stephani held an all-day seminar on lighting and posing. Other featured speakers included Randy McNeilly on digital negatives, Heather Kallhoff on creativity, Janet Boschker on children's photography, and our own Andy McDavid shared his deep digital knowledge. The convention finished up with Doug Box, back by popular demand, who spend and entire day on photography, marketing, advertising, and pricing.

Titled "The September School of Photography" it featured many of our own members sharing information on their areas of specialty including Bob and Bryan Welsh, Kelly Brown, Larry Ericksen, Neil and Miriam Haugen, Walt Klages, Richard May, Fred Molesworth, Emily Andrews, Andy McDavid, and Kris Stalnaker. In addition Dave Hutt, Mark Fitzgerald, Photoshop guru Kevin Kubota and Painter expert Judy Horn completed the program.

This year's Convention kicked off Friday night with a free program by famed photographer Melvin Sokolsky that was open to the public. Lots of new members enjoyed high quality speakers like Joe Craig, Bruce Hudson, Lori Nordstrom, Kalene Henderson and Bill Sorenson.

A fabulous time with our families - and great speakers too! One of the favorite highlights were the ceremonial dances performed in authentic costumes - a feast for photographers! Featured speakers were several of our own members and Suzette Allen, Jonny Yoshianna, and Fredrick Green.

This was our first year at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tigard. It was a perfect mix of business and marketing information from Mitche Graf, Michael Redford, and Ann Monteith, senior portrait tips from Bruce Berg, and lots of great digital secrets from Kevin Kubota. All this and a Hawaiian Luau too!

A great Convention as usual, thanks to Chairman Bob Welsh. The highlight for many was a special program by photojournal-istic legend Dave Hume Kennerly. It was open to the public and offered at no charge thanks to the combined sponsorship of Pro Photo and Canon. He's covered every war since the Vietnam, and three weeks later he was on his way to Iraq.

Our Summer Seminars tend to be more family-oriented than the main winter convention; but this one was especially so thanks to Judy Vallejos who organized children's crafts. But there was plenty of great photographic education too, with speakers Tim Lynch, Barry Rankin, and the popular return of bay area wedding photographer Bambi Cantrell.

What more could you ask for? How to create and market for seniors, photographing children, digital workflow, building a water pond, and a swap meet where members could sell and buy props and equipment. All this and great weather too!

We were fortunate to have digital master Eddie Tapp present his Photoshop program just as 7.0 was about to be released. But traditional photographers were represented as well with programs by Dennis Hammon, Gigi Clark, and wedding photographer Andrew Simpson. And for those who just want to make money, Bill Sorenson rounded out the program.

This year we hosted the Western States Print Competition,  and Chairman Richard May put together an outstanding program featuring Doug Box, Helen Yancy, Michael Taylor and Frank Cricchio.  All this, and Mardi Gras too!

This year featured a 2-morning seminar on using Photoshop for photographers. Doug Box gave great advice on pricing management and showed how to photograph small shiny objects. Full-day seminars with Denis Reggie on weddings and Deanne Burch on photographing children.

Michael and Diana Cook give a seminar on small town promotions; Bambi Cantrell, CPP, gives a full day on new styles of wedding photography. Both Michael and Bambi lead photographers on photographic beach safaris.
